INSTALLATION :

Pocket Secure 'MUST' be installed into 'Main Memory' to properly function!

>> Using the "Desktop" Installer:   Run the installation package from the desktop pc, while ActiveSync is running and connected to your device.  Read and accept the "End User License Agreement".  Continue with install, and allow 'Default' installation location.  At the completion of the install, this help file will open for user reference!

>>  To Start Pocket Secure, navigate to the Start Menu\Programs\Pocket Secure Shortcut, or use your file explorer to navigate to \Program Files\Pocket Secure on your pocket pc, tap on Pocket Secure.exe in the Pocket Secure folder, or (also suggested) 'map' the .exe to a hardware button.  Pocket Secure can also be added as a shortcut on the Today screen, if you also have the program to do this!

>>  PS_Run-n-Shut – When this ‘mini program’ is run, it will first run Pocket Secure, and lock your device, and then within a few seconds, the device will automatically be put into “sleep mode”!  This can be run by navigating to the \Start Menu\Programs\PS_Run-n-Shut shortcut, but is also recommended to be mapped to a hardware button, for a “one hand, one press” operation!

>> Registration / Current User Updates – From the “About Screen”, users testing the trial version can enter their registration code, which was received with their purchase, which will unlock the full version of the program.  If the trial has expired, and you try to start the program, a message will display informing that the “Demo has Expired”.  When OK is tapped, the “About Screen” will again display for the chance to enter the regi-code.

Current registered owners who wish to update to the newest release, can simply download the latest from the PS website.  Once installed & run, the same “Demo Expired” message will display, followed by the “About Screen” for regi-code entry once again to unlock!

PROGRAM FUNCTION :

"Pocket Secure"..  The concept is very simple !  To provide 'Lockout Security' for ppc & phone devices, from anyone who doesn't have the proper password to get in !

When the program is run, the following will happen:

>> Main Display -  The "current" screen displayed on the device will 'Freeze', and nothing on it will function !!   All 'Hardware' buttons will also be locked, and not functional until the program is closed, except the 'Power Button'!  As default, the current "Time & Date" will be displayed in the center of the screen, as well as the “Current Battery & Free Memory” status!

>> Password Screen - When the current, or chosen main screen image is displayed, and the user taps ANYWHERE on the screen, then the "Password Screen" will appear !  If the proper password is entered, the program will close, and the device becomes fully functional again ! As an alternate, a “Full Screen Numeric Keypad” can be displayed when the main screen is first tapped.  To access the settings, simply tap the “X” on the Keypad, and this will take you to the main Password Screen!

>> About” Screen Button -  On the bottom right of the Password screen, is a 'Question Mark'..  This will display the "Demo" info, with days remaining in demo, or the "Registered" Users Name, Address, Phone & Email, as defined in the ppc Owner setup !!   Also displayed is the 'Main Website Address',  and 'Pocket Secure Support Email Address'. This is also the screen where the Registration Code is entered to unlock the full version.  Tap OK, will close this screen, and return to the 'Password Screen'!

>> Settings Button -  On the bottom left of the Password screen, is an icon that looks like "gears"..  Tap this will display the "Option #1" screen..  On this screen is the ability to change the 'Current Password'.  This can be a 'Combination of Letters & Numbers', and is 'Case Sensitive' !*  Please remember the 'Note' at the top of the screen, which reads " 'Current Password' Must Be Entered For Options To Be Saved "  To save ANY changes made on any of the Options Tabs,, enter the 'Current Password' using the 'On-Screen-Keyboard'.  Then tap the 'Save' key.  This will save all changes, and return to the main password screen.

The 'Options #1' screen functions work as follows:

>> "Device Auto-Off:  Delay ?? sec."  -  This option allows a setting that will 'Turn-Off' the device in the user defined amount of time.  This, combined with other functions can give the lock / turn-off effect!

>> "Sounds: 'Lock & Auto-Off'"  -  A Sounds folder is installed in the \Program Files\Pocket Secure folder, that contains 2 sound files (.WAV format).  These are "user changeable" to any sounds, but if replaced, the new sound files 'Must' have the same names as the current!

"Lock" sound will be played whenever the program starts, and the "Auto-Off" sound will be played just before shutdown, but only when the "Device Auto-Off" feature is selected!

>> "Start After ?? Min of Inactivity"  -  This feature will Auto-Start Pocket Secure after a user defined amount of time that no screen taps are detected!  This is very useful if the device is left unattended for a period of time, then will 'Auto-Lock' to secure your device!

Note: "Each Time" this feature is 'Enabled', the device 'Must' be Soft Reset in order for the internal Time Monitoring to be Loaded Into Memory!

To the far right side of this feature is a ‘Magnifying Glass Icon’.  This new addition to v4.0, lets the user add programs to a list that Pocket Secure will “Ignore” when using the Run After Inactivity feature.  If you find that this feature is not working, try adding programs to this list that may be causing ‘system activity’!

>> Tabs - Also at the bottom of the 'Options' screen, there are (3) 'Tabs'.  These will toggle between the 'Options #1, Options #2 & Options #3 screens.

The 'Options #2' screen functions work as follows:

>> "Run After Reset - Delay ?? Sec."  - This option allows Pocket Secure to 'Automatically Run' following a Soft Reset of the device.

To check this box, will 'Maximize' Security by not allowing even a Soft Reset to close the program, because it will re-start !!  But BE CAREFUL !  If you forget the password, and this box (and 'Disable ActiveSync Option) is checked, then only a HARD RESET can unlock the device !!

The 'Delay' entry time will allow for all of the device's main 'Startup' files to be loaded before the program runs.(System files, Plugins... Etc.)  (20-25 Sec) seems to work fine, but adjust to preference!

*Note:  It is suggested to NOT check this option until sure that Pocket Secure works properly on "your" device!!

>> "Start At Power-On: Delay ?? Sec."  - This option will simply allow Pocket Secure to Automatically Run when the 'Device is Turned On'.  With this option checked, the user can simply turn off the device when not in use, and when 'Powered On', the device will "Lock" within a few seconds!

The 'Delay' entry time will be needed if the 'ScreenPics & Skins' are stored on a Storage Card.  Upon 'Power-On, all devices will need a very short time to initialize the Storage Cards, and will give Pocket Secure a 'Short Delay' before looking for Skins & Pics.  (3-5 Sec.) seems to work fine.  If the user chooses to store Skins & Pics in 'Main Storage Memory', then a delay may not be needed!

>> "Image:"  - If left unchecked, then the 'Current Screen' will be captured & displayed, when Pocket Secure is started..  If checked, then tap the 'Magnifying Glass Icon' button on the right, to choose an image from your device for the 'Main ScreenPic Display' !  This can be Any Image.  (240 x 320 for QVGA, and 480 x 640 for VGA devices). Supported formats are JPG, BMP, GIG, & PNG.  When choosing images, multiple images may be selected at once by navigating to the folder containing the images, then starting from the right side of the list “Tap & Drag” to the left, then down to highlight desired files!

>>  “SlideShow"  - When this feature is chosen,  you can create a list of  images, and add the seconds for image change for a "SlideShow Effect", or choose only one for display (when 'Use Slideshow' is Not ticked), to display a single background.  In addition, the “Stretch Image To Fill Screen” option, will allow the same images to be used in Portrait & Landscape Modes, or a smaller image to display full screen!

>> "Skin:"  - If this option is left unchecked, then the 'Default' Program Skin (Background, Buttons, Fonts & Colors) will be displayed when the program is run.  If checked, then tap the 'Magnifying Glass Icon' button on the right, to choose a '???.skin' file with its associated images.  External skins can be stored anywhere on the device!

*** Note:  Please read the included text file "VGA/QVGA Skin Bitmap Name Order-Size.txt", which explains the Skin's Bitmap Image Sizes, ???.skin  file Setup Order, and Color Entries.   Also included is the "Skin Font Color Chart.txt", which gives 'Many' Color Choices for the Skin Text Colors!

Please follow the 'Skin / BMP / Color' instructions closely, otherwise the skin will Not display properly, or Error Messages will display !!!!  A full 'Tutorial' is also on the PS Website!

>> "Disable ActiveSync" - This feature will 'Disable Communications' between AS and the PC.  If you 'De-Select' this feature while the device is still in the cradle, then the device Must be removed and then re-inserted before AS communications can be re-established!

>> “Files Encryption” – As an added level of security, AES 128bit Encryption is available for Long & Short Term use!  Choose the type that you want and add files to the list for encryption.

* “Long Term” – Files added to this list will be encrypted and saved using an ‘Additional Password’, different from the current program password.  These files can be stored anywhere, and will remain encrypted until the user Decrypts!

* “Short Term” – Files added to this list will be encrypted and saved using the ‘Current Program Password’, and will remain encrypted ‘only’ while Pocket Secure is running!  Upon exiting the program, these files will automatically be decrypted, as well as automatically encrypted again the next time Pocket Secure is run!

The 'Options #3' screen functions work as follows:

>> "Use Numeric Keypad"  -  When this feature is enabled, a 'Full Screen Keypad' will be displayed first when the main screen is tapped.  This allows a "Numeric Only" password to be entered with your finger or stylus!  To access the other options, just tap the "X" button, and this will return to the 'Normal Password Screen', where all options will again be available!

>> Hard Reset After XX Incorrect Password Attempts” – When the user selected number of incorrect passwords is reached, the device will automatically attempt to Hard Reset!  This feature “May Not” function on all devices, and on some WM5 devices this may give the user a choice to Soft Reset, and possibly allow to bypass a locked device!  * Use Caution when using this feature!

>> "Display System Information"  - With this option checked, (4) additional options may be displayed on the 'Main Captured / Chosen' screen.  In addition, the 'Clock & Date' can be displayed at the 'Top, Middle, or Bottom' of the main screen by  using the 'Date / Time Placement Drop-Down Box' !  Also, the 'Color' of all text on the 'Captured / Chosen' screen can be changed using the 'Font Color Drop-Down Box'.  The 'Battery & Memory' display will always display on the Bottom of the 'Captured / Chosen' screen, and its color is also chosen with the 'Font Color Drop-Down Box' !

** Important Note:  After all changes are made on the 'Options' screens, then tap on the 'Save' Button.  This will take you back to the 'Options #1' screen, where you MUST Enter the 'Current Password', then tap the 'Save' Button again for the Changes to take Effect, and be Saved.  You will then be taken back to the main Password Screen!
